Private tutor in Newark, NJ
Howard University - BS, Chemistry
I feel that I am an excellent tutor because I strive to identify each student's strengths and weaknesses. Using that knowledge, I am able to concentrate on the concepts that the student needs additional help in and once their understanding is clear, I give them a multitude of problems in that concept to ensure their understanding is clear. Most of my tutoring skills were gained at the math labs at both schools I attended. These math labs assisted students improve their grades, complete homework assignments more quickly, and prepare for math placement exams. While attending school, I participated in a work-study program, volunteering 20 hours per week to help college students improve their grades, complete assignments on time, prepare for math placement exams, and gain a better understanding of different math concepts. The feedback provided by the students gave me great joy and satisfaction knowing that I was helping them to understand and excel in math. I am now a senior at Howard University majoring in Chemistry. Prior to transferring there, I attended Prince George's Community College where I majored in General Education. I enrolled in the AVID tutoring program, where I was able to help middle and high school students with math. Also, I enrolled in the SIR student and STEM collegian programs. In my free time I enjoy cooking, singing, reading Christian books, and watching movies.
